It’s another Welcome Back Weekend in LOTRO, but this time there’s something different going on. The bonus XP for mob kills has been reduced to 5%, but to make up for this all stable travel is free. FREE!

I honestly like this a heck of a lot better, as it’ll benefit everyone across the game. It also encourages returning and new players to see more of the world and the things that have been changed.

The event starts today and runs through January 25th.

All-around good person, mbp (of mindbendingpuzzles.blogspot.com), sent me an interesting e-mail today. I’m just going to quote him because he says it nice and clear:

Tony, people who availed of Lotro Europe’s “welcome back” week have been offered an exclusive life time subscription offer of only £75 / €110. That’s a big saving on regular prices. It hasn’t been advertised at all but if returnees try to reactivate their accounts they will see the offer. Might be worth telling folks because the deal runs out on 10th August. You can read a forum post about it here http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=370195

So, if you’re in Europe and love the game, there’s a great deal. Heck, even if you don’t want to play forever, that’s little more than a year subscription. You could come and go as you please for years.

For those of you in the US, that’s about $160. I pay $120 a year currently for my subscription, to give a comparison. Not bad.

Welcome Back Weekend Is… Back

So it’s time for yet another Welcome Back Weekend. No one I know that’s playing has left the game, but I do like that I get a bonus out of it: 25% additional XP per mob kill. It’s like killing four enemies and getting one free! What a bargain.

Official details:

To help celebrate our latest free update for LotRO we’d like to welcome back all of our former subscribers for an extended weekend of free gameplay from March 26 – 31, 2009. In addition, there is a +25% bonus experience boost on mob kills* for everyone playing on those days!

If you do know someone that left and you think they’d give the game another shot, their account will work over the weekend. If they never owned Mines of Moria, the expansion will not be enabled for them. Just keep that in mind.

Still with the Quest Tracker Quest Guide and other adjustments, the game can arguably win back a good amount of people it might have turned off even a month a go. Worth a shot, right?

Turbine has announced that their “Welcome Back Weekend” will return. The event starts tomorrow, November 6th, and runs through November 10th. During this time former players will be able to play for free. If you no longer have your DVDs, you can download either the standard resolution or high resolution version of the client. The client includes everything up to the last major update, Book 14, so patching shouldn’t be too bad.

In addition, all players will receive an additional 25% in bonus XP from mobs between November 6th and November 17th. This stacks with rest XP, so it’s pretty substantial. This should help you get your languishing characters up to 50 or even start a new one and get a nice head start.

Maybe I can finally make more progress with my Minstrel and Burglar.
