You may have noticed a very small patch being applied to LotRO today. The launcher doesn’t discuss what it is exactly, but I did find some patch notes on the Lorebook:
Fixed the issue with players selected target deselecting.
Removed the Mask effects from the Fall Festival Quests. Players can still obtain the mask upon quest completion.
Neither of these issues affected me that I’m aware of, but if they’ve been driving you nuts hopefully you’ll be good to go.
It appears as though the The Lost Ring–lore of Eregion quest has wrapped up on most, if not all, servers. This is great for high level characters that are ready to move along in Book 14, but it also means something else: if you’re still looking for class quest items this is probably your last chance to get them easily.
Class quest items are basically just what the name implies: items required for quests specific to your class. At Level 45 you will be offered quests unique to your class that will give you access to impressive items and new skills. These quests are far from easy, however. In most cases the quests require a significant amount of drops, including ones from signature mobs in the most difficult areas of the game.
For the more casual player, some of these items were pretty much out of reach. Quite a few required your presence in raids against the biggest bosses in the game, which is made even more difficult by the fact that the drop isn’t guaranteed to come to you. You could also amass a metric ton of gold to pay for the items on the Auction House.
So anyway, the Ring–lore of Eregion quest come offered class quest items on a rare basis. Since many people either already had these items, didn’t know what they were or didn’t even need them most have appeared on the Auction House. This drove prices on items down significantly. Some items that could fetch 14 Gold could be found for 1 Gold or less. As the most difficult to gather class quest items are tradable, this makes finishing these quests off that much easier.
I really suggest people take advantage of this before the cheap items sell off and everything is back to square one. It’s likely already happened on some servers. My thought is that Turbine did this to allow for people to get ready for Mines of Moria on more equal footing. Whether or not they’ll do something of this nature again is anyone’s guess, but I’d be surprised.
All I know is that it would suck to need a Flawless Scale of Lhugrien down the road only to find it’s 4 Gold, realizing you could have gotten it earlier for 250 Silver. Lotrolinks.com has a nice list of all the items these class quests require. Check it out.
Tomorrow, August 21st, will see Patch 1 for Book 14. All servers will be offline between 6AM and 12PM EST for this update. You can check out the patch notes here if you’re interested.
Several things have been adjusted, mostly affecting quests and instances. Annúminas is seeing some fixes and adjustments as well.
As someone who is way behind on Books and isn’t known for raiding, I guess I’m most excited about the Auction House getting back to normal.
The LotRO forums saw a new post today entitled Amarthiel’s Attacks. I figured this was just a little bit of information to read, considering Town Criers have been yelling about her in-game for a couple weeks now with no real effect.
Turns out that Amarthiel is actually on the loose in the game itself and can appear in quite a few high-level zones. There’s a thread on this in the forums detailing where players have ran into her along with some pretty cool screenshots. She’s basically been running around assisting creeps and attacking players left and right.
Although Turbine hasn’t commented on it, Amarthiel is clearly a GM/player controlled character and not simply yet another AI enemy. She has some pretty devastating debuffs and travels with two Angmarim heralds. Apparently she can also summon additional attackers .… I guess technically she could do almost anything she pleases haha.
Pretty awesome concept. I hope this goes on for a while.
Logging in today you might have noticed the updated Town Crier NPCs. They’re now displayed as a purple flag on your map. Their job is simply to inform you of what’s happening in Eriador. Of special note is that the Town Crier will probably be the first place you’ll hear about a new repeatable quest that’s currently in place.
