Fighting Shadowfoot: Shot by Gul Dukat
One of the nice things about the search function on MMeOw is that I can tell what people look for once they get to our site. I thought it’d be smart to base some of our Tip Time entries on these searches.
Today’s Tip Time involves [Shadowfoot’s Paw].
Shadowfoot is a named wolf that wanders around the Old Forest. For most he’ll be a push over: he’s only level 13 and doesn’t have any obvious strengths. What’s unusual about him is that he consistently drops multiple [Shadowfoot’s Paw]s. These are not grayed out as vendor trash.
A while back, items used for critical success chances while crafting were largely gathered from mobs. Some of these were extremely specific and came from certain notable enemies. Things have been streamlined since then. You might still have some of these items, but they can be traded in for the current critical crafting items with various NPC traders. I spent some time looking at what they offered and Shadowfoot’s Paw wasn’t on the menu.
It’s not for crafting. I’ve yet to find a quest that specifically asks for [Shadowfoot’s Paw] either. I thought that perhaps this was one that managed to slip by unnoticed; however, I also found a thread on the European LOTRO forums from 2008 that discusses the general uselessness of this item.
Maybe it’s just playing off our assumption that everything in a MMORPG has to have a real use. Someone wants barghest eyes, after all. Don’t ask me.
Has anyone found out something about this I’ve missed?

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a great holiday. I’ve kind of been out of commission, but I’m finally starting to feel better.
Anyway, our LOTRO Screenshot Contest has officially ended. I’ve reached out to some of the MMeOw staff for opinions and have narrowed down our two groups of winners.
By nature, contests like this never are as popular as ones that require a comment or a friendship on a social network. Even so, I received a lot more screens than I was anticipating. I was happy to see that. Every shot we got was good, in my opinion. It was hard to narrow things down, but we tried our best (not just based upon “beauty”, but difficulty, composition, etc.). Please don’t be offended if you’re not in one of our final groups!
Here are three winners as chosen by MMeOw:

Bob’s shot of Weathertop at dusk. I’m sure we all take a lot of shots of this landmark, but Bob did it at just the right time.

Chris’s shot of a battle in progress. If you’ve tried to grab a shot of an enemy at a certain point in its animation sequence, you know how hard is to get it just right. Chris did a nice job here.

Miriam’s shot of Lothlorien. Lothlorien always looks pretty, but Mirmam’s composition in this shot really enhances the effect.
Congrats to all three of you. I’ll be e-mailing you shortly with your Adventurer’s Pack code. Just log into your Turbine account and apply the code!
In order to keep things a bit more “fair”, we also a group that everyone can vote on. Out of the dozens we received, these have been narrowed down to shots submitted by fourteen separate people. I will be posting something separate about this shortly, so stay tuned!

While grinding out the quests in S. Mirkwood (how similar in pattern they are to those in Eregion) I’ve taken a break to try out two new-for-me classes: Captain and Rune-keeper. On the whole, I am enjoying both classes and the contrast they make to my main.
Hitherto I’ve only played tank roles. Captain’s support and jack-of-all-trades role is rewarding, and Rune-keeper’s instant death strikes are, well, more satisfying than I realized.
This post’s title refers to the huge change in sound and visuals that come with Captain and Rune-keeper. Man, can my man Calenbor shout! And—BZZT-ZAP!—there is no special effect too campy for Figgalin. Stones for everyone.

Don’t forget, our contest for one of five Adventurer’s Packs ends on December 31st at noon CST. Read all the details here: http://mmeow.net/2009/12/lotro-screenshot-contest-win-1 – 5-adventurers-packs/Conte or here: http://mmeow.net/tw2464. We’ve gotten quite a few entries so far, but your chances to win are still very good!
I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. Have a good New Year’s. We’ll be back with regular posting once the holidays (and more importantly for me, the sick season) slow down.
