It’s time for another contest. This time I’m providing the item myself: a brand new and sealed Collector’s Edition version of The Lord of the Rings: Mines of Moria.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Collector’s Edition includes discs for Shadows of Angmar and Mines of Moria. You get a soundtrack, art book, map and a replica of the One Ring to boot.
This is for a North American (US) copy of the game. It will work in other areas, but you will have to connect to the North American/Oceanic servers if you use it. I will ship this worldwide (although it may take a while, I’m not rich!), but just keep this in mind.
Last time I picked a winner based on comments left on the contest entry. This time I’m going to do something a little different because I feel like social networking. There are two ways to enter:
Become a fan of the MMeOw Facebook page and leave a comment on the wall mentioning the contest in some way.
Follow MMeOw on Twitter and send a reply to @mmeownet mentioning the contest in some way.
Anyone from either of those groups will be automatically entered and chosen randomly. If you’re on both, that means you’ll have two chances to enter. Please no duplicate accounts beyond that … play fair!
If you already own it, no big deal: give it to a friend or upgrade your standard account with its code. Whatever makes you happiest.
Winners will be chosen on October 7th. Good luck!
Since this seems to have turned into the main thread on the topic I’ll address a couple of things that have come up.
The announcement today didn’t contain pricing since we’re focused on announcing the game features and doing previews at PAX. A subsequent announcement with those details will be out later. But since it’s being asked, here’s the scoop:
Siege of Mirkwood will have a base price of $19.99. As with Moria last year, we’re going to have a set of early upgrade offers that are very compelling. We’re not quite ready to unveil those details yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
The epic story continues on in Volume 3 as a regular content update early next year.
Some of the improvements to the game coming with Mirkwood will benefit everyone, but the key features will require the Mirkwood upgrade.
I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who are chomping at the bit to get started on Book 15 and head into Moria. If you’re one of those people, you’d probably like to know where you should park yourself before the servers come back online.
You have two main options here, in my opinion:
1.) You can just hang out in Rivendell as Elrond gives the Book 15 starting quest. As usual, he’s in the Last Homely House.
I’m going with the second one for one real reason: Echad Candelleth finally is receiving a stable. For those unaware, this Elven outpost was in the southern reaches of the Trollshaws and was simply a pain to reach.
Once you have this, you can ride a horse to Rivendell and go see Elrond. A few extra minutes and you’ve killed two birds with one stone.
Looks like I can put off a Trait guide for even longer than I planned: Turbine has posted an 8 page guide to using Traits that takes into account changes coming in Mines of Moria.
It’s worth reading if you’re wondering what will happen after Level 50 or if you make a new character. Of course, it’s also worth reading for new players and those who never really paid much attention to traits in the first place. Everyone wins.
You might have noticed that token bartering was added back into LotRO with no real announcement. For those unaware, killing mobs randomly awards you with different types of tokens. Collect five of a single type, turn it in to the special NPC in major towns and you’ll receive a rare item. The higher the enemy level, the better the token and thus the better the item.
Turbine has announced that this program will be running all the way to November 4th. Last time this drove down prices on rare class quest items significantly … So I’d recommend watching the Auction House for anything you don’t manage to get yourself.
If you’re not sure what you’ll need, check out this list. A lot of these items are really difficult to get and many have required you to raid (or trade with someone who has). If you’re like me, this is probably the best route to get your items together.
