It’s time for another contest. This time I’m providing the item myself: a brand new and sealed Collector’s Edition version of The Lord of the Rings: Mines of Moria.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Collector’s Edition includes discs for Shadows of Angmar and Mines of Moria. You get a soundtrack, art book, map and a replica of the One Ring to boot.
This is for a North American (US) copy of the game. It will work in other areas, but you will have to connect to the North American/Oceanic servers if you use it. I will ship this worldwide (although it may take a while, I’m not rich!), but just keep this in mind.
Last time I picked a winner based on comments left on the contest entry. This time I’m going to do something a little different because I feel like social networking. There are two ways to enter:
Become a fan of the MMeOw Facebook page and leave a comment on the wall mentioning the contest in some way.
Follow MMeOw on Twitter and send a reply to @mmeownet mentioning the contest in some way.
Anyone from either of those groups will be automatically entered and chosen randomly. If you’re on both, that means you’ll have two chances to enter. Please no duplicate accounts beyond that … play fair!
If you already own it, no big deal: give it to a friend or upgrade your standard account with its code. Whatever makes you happiest.
Winners will be chosen on October 7th. Good luck!
The only time Hobbit attempted Hall of Mirrors was during an interminable rotation with 1 person anchoring the 3-man, and 5 of the rest of us taking turns as the other 2 players in the instance.
We were all Defenders of Amon Sul, so it was not as traumatic as a PUG, but it was no fun walk in the park either.
By the time my 60 Warden joined, everything was cleared out and it was just the final boss lady. And, wow, is she mean! After 4 wipes, we finally gave up the ghost. 2 High Road’s guide is much appreciated.
A quick post to direct you towards Ten Ton Hammer’s video interview with LotRO boss Jeffrey Steefel. Its 40+ 14 minutes (and now works!). The video provides a ton of clarification to the confusion of the expansion press release. Additionally you get sneak peeks of:
Dol Goldur (cool raid, but he states that you “will need a tonne of radiance to get through here”)
Mirkwood (mist/fog in creepy woods!)
maps (looks big, but could be deceptive)
travel route to Mirkwood (boat from Lothlorien-Mirkwood)
mount system (you can talk to NPCS from your mount and visually-emote from your horse!)
shared storage (via Vault keeper)
combat is more “punchy” (class moves over-riding auto-attack)
legendary items (4th runic slot is for craftable runics!)
skirmishes (each player creates just one skirmish NPC-partner which are highly customisable; skirmishes you enter from anywhere in the world;l you gain skirmish points for participating and completing tasks which can be used to upgrade your NPC-partner)
For now that is all I can share as the video cut off, but it is worth watching yourself: http://www.tentonhammer.com/ (then find the video sneak peek; direct linking doesn’t work)
Amlug has a blog post that I think many have been wanting for quite a while now. It’s all about Turbine’s planned changes for how Radiance gear is bartered. I highly recommend reading the full post at its source and leaving some comments. The entire post is of interest, though, so I have 95% of it below as well:
Yes, we have listened to your concerns about the Book 8 changes and the previous instances not being changed. We have talked long and hard about what are the best ways to fix this system so it is works for as many people as possible and we also ultimately want it to feel…wait for it…rewarding!
So we have come up with a new plan. Meet Medallions — The new shiny barter token to use for bartering for your radiance pieces and some extra Legendary Item augmentations! Medallions will be replacing most of the tokens that you’ve seen since Moria. There will be unique Medallions for each cluster of instances that we release. Currently there will be two for the live content you guys are playing: the Medallion of Moria and the Medallion of Lothlorien. The Medallions will drop off of every boss monster in level 58+ instances. This means that killing boss one in Forges of Khazad-Dum will drop Medallions for everyone in the party. (Note: Make sure you all loot the chest!) I’m not going to get into how many, etc. here because we are still balancing the system. Players can use Medallions to trade for same things they were trading for — namely the Challenge sets, the other dungeon sets, and relics and Legendary Item XP.
Currently the Medallions of Moria will drop in: Grand Stairs, Forges, Sixteenth Hall, Fil Ghashan, Skumfil, and Dark Delvings. The Medallions of Lothlorien will drop in Waterworks, Halls of Crafting, and Hall of Mirrors. Future instances will drop a new Medallion.
The goal here is to not force you all to grind through instances in only the way we want. Also, players will still gain ground towards gaining their sets even if they aren’t achieving the Challenges. However, doing the Challenges will gain you more Medallions! In addition to this, we are going to be adding in some items to Challenges at a very low percentage drop. This means you’ll have a chance of getting something special. Finally, we are fixing it so there are new Challenge quests that work while you are inside the instances only and are on a daily retry timer. Orion has mentioned this tech and you can read his blog for more information. Oh and if that is not enough, we have some new Legendary Item goodies that you can trade for that we think you will like a lot. (But you’ll have to wait to find out what exactly!)
“But what about my old tokens? What do I do with them?”
No worries. There will be new npcs at the Twenty-first Hall and Caras Galadhon near the class trainers that will exchange those old crusty tokens for new shiny medallions! These Barter Exchange Traders will also hold all the Legendary Item goodies. They are your new favorite buddies.
I’m sure there is much more to talk about and we’ll be discussing the new instances we are working on shortly, but for now, I hope this comes as good news.

p.s. Radiance and Hope have been separated back out again. Radiance will no longer give bonuses to players on landscape, it will only be used to combat Gloom.
Happy? Unhappy? Indifferent? Unsure until it’s in effect? No matter what your opinion, I think we can all agree that it’s great to see Turbine addressing player concerns so directly. I am personally happy that they’ve taken the time to think about this rather than rushing something out to appease some of the more vocal forum members.
I have to say, I prefer this blog approach some of the team members are taking as of late. They can get all of their ideas out before others can interject or misconstrue. There’s also more time to edit and be sure of what they’re saying before they post it. I think this goes over better in the long run, honestly.
Well it’s June 23rd, which means all of us US/Oceanic players will be updating our client to Book 8. If you run the launcher now, you can patch and/or download all the necessary files. I downloaded in advance (the files add up to about 600MB), but it’s still a pretty lengthy installation process. Just keep that in mind.
Servers are still down and will not officially go live until 12 EST. There’s always a chance it might be a bit earlier or a bit later than that.
For the Europeans out there, Codemasters has not announced an outright official time just yet. They are, however, currently aiming for Thursday. We’ll see.
Very excited to see some of the changes. I’m still largely playing as my Rune-keeper, who is pretty close to hitting level 40 now. I’m interested in seeing how some of the changes affect him. I might roll a new character to check out some of the Bree adjustments as well.
Does anyone else have any specific plans? I imagine at least a few of you will be hitting the new raid.
