Does anyone ever really think about the random things we gather in MMORPGs? This isn’t a “why am I killing 10 rats!?” post, but more a post about the end result.
Last night I gathered some barghest eyes. Fine enough. In-game, this is a simple loot procedure. Not too gruesome and certainly disconnected from what would be the “reality”. What if one truly had to do this? I finish off this huge, smelly and diseased creature. Then I have to take something and scoop its eyes out of its skull?
By this point, I have a pouch full of nasty, smelly items. My packs are dripping with blood, bile and who knows what. It’s amazing to me that anyone in town would want to be within twenty feet of me, let alone ask me for help. When I finally reach the woman I am helping, I dig through my bag of dead things and pull out a pile of gooey eyes. It makes me wish I had tupperware, although a smarter person probably stores these things in glass containers of some sort.
Every game has this sort of thing, so this is an observation and not a complaint. It makes me glad I live here and not in Middle Earth. Being an adventurer is nasty business.

How about all those intestines we end up toting around. Ick! (And why is it that barghests only have one eye, not two?)
There are some things that make me wish I lived in Middle-Earth, like the little hobbit homes in the Shire, especially at dusk, and then some things that make me very glad it’s all a game… like intestines.
Haha, intestines crossed my mind too.
