I rolled a new Champion on Brandywine. It’s one of the few classes I’ve not even attempted to play as in the past. So far I’ve been having fun with it because it feels so new. This is coupled with the fact Archet and Bree-land have been revamped a bit since I last played. I really feel like there’s more of a natural flow now. Before it was easy to isolate yourself into a single area .… You can still do this (there’s certainly plenty to do), but now I have quests that obviously suggest checking out Bucktown or The Shire and so forth. Before it was easy to skip that zone entirely as a Man, but I think they’ve come up with a great balance.

Aleneth Shows Off Her "Swashbuckling" Hat

Aleneth models her favorite “swashbuckling” hat.

Anyway, her name is Aleneth and these are my experiences playing as her.

Getting Started

Today Aleneth arrived in Archet without much fanfare. Here she was just yet another adventurer, most likely doomed to be killed by some no-name goblin and eaten by a smelly, bloated Warg. After resting, her first encounter was with one Mundo Sackville-Baggins. Like all Sackville-Baggins…es, Mundo wasn’t the least bit pleasent. Still, she got some new clothes out of bothering to put up with him.

"Boy, I'm beat. I better get going . . ."

“Boy, I’m beat. I better get going …”

Looking through her pack, I settled on my typical go-to cloak: [The Ranger’s Cloak]. It’s one of several she has packed away, including the [Harbinger’s Cloak]. As cool as that would be, Aleneth could use 42 Armour a heck of a lot more than 5.

After whacking a few wolves and boars in the head with her trusty, [Worn Mace], the locals trusted Aleneth enough to talk more about the local bandit problem. Of course, as with most things, this problem turned out to be a lot worse than expected. Archet was soon destroyed, leaving the survivors to pick up the pieces. Aleneth decided to continue to lend a hand, especially after finding that the spiders previously hanging around the outskirts of Archet were now nearly everywhere. She cleared out as many as she could, including their queen: Iorneth. She was rewarded with its grotesque head .… For some reason she is still holding on to it, it just doesn’t seem worth selling.

Spiders Enjoy Decorating with Skeletons

Spiders enjoy decorating with skeletons. Torch-light sets the mood.

Another local rewarded her with a new hat. She had a hard time wearing this one instead of her feather topped hat, especially since it kind of looked like a bucket with a jock strap attached to it. She dealt with it. Soon after she summoned her first helper too: a herald bearer she decided to refer to as “Rudiger”. They’re not getting along too well yet.

Not too sure about this one...

Not too sure about this one…

Aleneth is also bothered by some of the more “fiesty” males in the area. After noticing a nearby admirer (read: strange person), she attempted to run. No luck! Then she ran in circles and at unusual angles. No luck there either! This was finally followed by a quick whisper of hello and some kisses in her direction.

She had enough adventuring and soon retired.

Next time: Venturing into new areas and learning how to craft!
