Many of you likely noticed the addition of Google Ads to this Web site recently. It was something I wanted to try to help cover server costs. While it is not expensive to host this site, it does cost something. I thought the ads would help.

I’m not sure why I thought that, honestly.  They turned out to be intrusive. The Flash ones were annoying and added too much to the download. The text ones just looked dumb. I was also dismayed by the appearance of a few gold selling Web sites, which I would block as soon as I saw them.  I felt all of this cheapened the overall site. The last thing I want to do is look like an informercial, but I felt that was exactly what happened.

The whole thing made me feel oddly guilty. I wasn’t happy with any of this.

To cut it short: I’ve removed the Google ads entirely. I’ve kept the Killer Guides ad, largely because I believe it’s simple and relevant. Anything similar that may or may not be added the future will be highly scrutinized by me. Plus I certainly don’t mind if you block it with something like AdBlock.

So don’t expect ads like that again any time soon. To help compensate for this, I’ve set up a donation page. If you’d like to donate a buck or two, that would be great. Absolutely everything will go toward properly hosting this Web site. Anything left over will help fund purchases strictly for contests for all of you.

I do not expect this of anyone. If you wish to do so, do so. If you do not, do not. More importantly, I will not bring it up again. I’m not interested in begging either! :)

In any event, I just wanted to say something about this. Thanks for your understanding and keep visiting!
