Welcome Back Weekend Is… Back

So it’s time for yet another Welcome Back Weekend. No one I know that’s playing has left the game, but I do like that I get a bonus out of it: 25% additional XP per mob kill. It’s like killing four enemies and getting one free! What a bargain.

Official details:

To help celebrate our latest free update for LotRO we’d like to welcome back all of our former subscribers for an extended weekend of free gameplay from March 26 – 31, 2009. In addition, there is a +25% bonus experience boost on mob kills* for everyone playing on those days!

If you do know someone that left and you think they’d give the game another shot, their account will work over the weekend. If they never owned Mines of Moria, the expansion will not be enabled for them. Just keep that in mind.

Still with the Quest Tracker Quest Guide and other adjustments, the game can arguably win back a good amount of people it might have turned off even a month a go. Worth a shot, right?

Since you’re the #1 LOTRO news blog, consider this an official *whap!* for calling it a Quest Tracker like all the illiterates on the forums and OOC.

The Quest Tracker is the list you can show on your main UI and has been in the game since launch.

The new “location blob” feature is a Quest Guide.

  3. I took a chunk of last night to log back into my old account. I’ll be posting my thoughts at some point, though they haven’t really changed much — I’m going to pick up the expansion at some point and don’t really have the time right now.

Players who actually were on the fence (especially if they stalled out in the 40’s due to the lack of content in that region at launch) might walk away with a much more positive impression, if they even find out about the weekend — I still have yet to receive an email announcement, and only knew about it through blogs.

    :p

Thought: I wonder if a +25% Infamy/Renown weekend would get players back into the Ettenmoors? Or even attract players who normally wouldn’t have considered it?

I love the constant server crashes, and the fact that Turbine finds it a normal course of game play for you to lose items and gold because of it! Alright!! So glad I’m not paying for this game.

Landroval crashed about 5 times this weekend and they had to patch it to fix stability issues. Lots of people lost items and gold and they shut down registration to the forums so no one could complain. Turbine’s policy (which you can read yourself) is they DO NOT replace lost items or gold, no questions. Very poor support considering WoW with over 11 million subscribers still takes the time to investigate and refund lost virtual property like gold and items. Turbine on the other hand doesn’t even bother investigating claims. My guess is because it’s the only MMO I’ve ever played who has frequent rollbacks because of server instability. So it would take them forever to constantly have to replenish player items lost in the rollbacks. Love the game, hate the company. Sorry to bear the bad news.
