Until fairly recently I had no idea what a consignment quest was. I’ve asked a few people about these and they hadn’t heard of them either. They’re pretty useful at times and it’s definitely worth finding out a bit about them.

My first exposure to these quests was purely accidental. I talked to a vendor at the Combe Lumber-yard and noticed he was selling some usual items. These were called “Work Orders”.

Once you purchase a work order it is added to your inventory. I was a bit confused at first because the item tells you to have it  signed and returned. I just couldn’t figure out who the heck had to sign it. It turns out that you’re the one that should sign them. So just simply right click the item in your inventory to continue the quest.

When you talk to the vendor again, you will be able to return the item to them. At this point you will be told your work order is under way and that you should come back in a few hours or more. When you return, completing the quest will earn you some crafting resources.

There are work orders for ore, wood, scholar items and hides. Different work orders are available in different areas of Middle Earth, although all consignment quests are located near general starting areas in the game. There are also various tiers of work orders, with the most expensive ones resulting in higher tiered craft items. Unfortunately, the more expensive the work order, the longer it takes too.

Here’s the list of where you can start work orders:

  • Wood: Woodcutter Hornbeam in the Combe Lumber-Camp, which is just east of Combe proper
  • Ore: Miner Onar, just outside of Silver Deep Mine near Thorin’s Hall
  • Hides: Tanner Boffin in the village of Overhill, in the Shire
  • Scholar Items: Archivist Arodel inside the Scholar’s Enclave in Duillond

On the lowest end, work orders take 6 hours. On the highest end they take 40. Keep in mind that you can only have one work order of each type going at a time. So if you are waiting 40 hours for the best Scholar items, you won’t be able to also run a work order for the cheapest one.

This is not really something you can rely on to get items immediately like you could gathering by yourself or bidding on the Auction House. That said, it can be incredibly useful at times. I sometimes run one when I’m going to log off for a while. You could also make some alts just for this pupose if you like.
