Yule Festival began today in LotRO. You can gather up Yule Festival Tokens for gifts, earn a new mount type and get a Yule Tree housing item if you like.
As usual, you’ll want to see your local Town Crier for explanations of all the things going on. I’ll split these tasks up by area for you below. If I’ve missed any, just let me know.
Bree-land
Yule Festival
As with all other festivals, most of the things of interest involve the Bree-field festival grounds north of the town. In addition to the Festival Run, you can also talk with Ada Musgrove in the center of the Festival Grounds for quest that will teach you Man Dance moves. Just follow her lead by entering /dance1, /dance2 or /dance3 when she calls them out. Just be sure she’s selected when you do the moves.
Humbert Sandheaver is having another pie-eating contest as well. Just eat the pies as quickly as you can for a special title.
Festival Run
The festival grounds are hosting a horse race. You’ll see a little stable with the horses you’ll need to run. Every 10 minutes or so, the NPC nearby will start up another race. You’ll need to get the quest from her, grab a saddle and then outfit a horse to race.
You have to go around the entire track once, going through each set of gates. Players tend to go around the obstacles here, so if you want a fighting chance you’ll likely have to do the same. Winning this will let you choose between a Yule Horse Run Token or 3 Yule Festival Tokens.
The Yule Horse Run Token can be traded in at the stables north of the festival grounds. This usually requires several Yule Festival Tokens as well, but I’m unsure of the exact number.
The Quartermaster
The Quartermaster is just to the West of the Town Crier. He trades for 5 Yule Festival Tokens for a Man Gift Box, but also offers two of his own quests:
- What Ale’s You
- More Boar
They’re both straightfoward. What Ale’s You has you following the road West to find some lost casks of ale. More Boar has you retreiving some stolen meat from wolves just north of the Combe-gate. Each results in a Yule Festival Token.
The Shire
The Inn League
The Inn League is looking for new members yet again. If you’ve not done this before, head to the old Party Tree north of Hobbiton. You’ll be given a quest that involves a drunken pub crawl. You’ll be inducted into the group after completing it.
If you’re already a member, this is a chance to raise your reputation with the group. You can do the pub crawl quest again and you’ll find NPCs throughout the world that are interested in specific local drinks.
Yule Festival
The Shire’s event is at the Party Tree. You can learn new dance moves from Oger Brockhouse here if you wish.
Yuletide Woes
A bunch of the hobbits in Hobbiton-Bywater are none too pleased about Lobelia Sackville-Baggins making herself the official Yuletide-planner this year. Talk to any of them to start the quest, which basically just involves getting the opinions of local hobbits on the subject.
Just north you’ll see a windmill ran by Sandyman, which will then change the quest to finding an invitation nearby (it’s just behind the windmill on a platform). This will then instruct you to find Will Whitfoot back in Michel Delving at the town hole (north of the big statue in the center of town).
You’ll be told there’s not much you can do unless you retreive the book of Festival Law from the Great Smials, which is to the east in the town of Tuckburough. Enter the biggest building there and then make a left to enter the Library. You’ll find what you need on a bookshelf. Return to Will Whitfoot with your findings and he’ll give you a petition.
Return to Hobbiton/Bywater and talk to 10 hobbits to have them sign the petition to remove Lobelia from the post. Don’t forget the hobbits in the inn, Gaffer Gamgee south of the Party Tree and Opal Goodbody by the ovens at the Party Tree grounds.
You can then server Lobelia with the petition. She’s at Bag End, north of the Party Tree. After she goes nuts, head south and talk to Gaffer Gamgee again a Yule Tree. It’s an outdoor housing item.
The Quartermaster
The Quartermaster is on the eastern side of the Party Tree grounds. He’ll trade a Hobbit Gift Box for 5 Yule Festival Tokens and offers two quests:
- Good Cheer and Warm Cider
- Ribbons and Bows
Good Cheer and Warm Cider involves retreiving apples from an orhard just to the east. Ribbons and Bows involves gathering boxes on the road toward Overhill. Each rewards a Yule Festival Token.
Duillond
Yule Festival
Head to Duillond for this one. On the southern side of town you’ll find the dance instructor who can teach you Elf dances.
The Quartermaster
The Quartermaster is just outside of the gazebo where you’ll find the dance instructor in Duillond. She’ll trade a Elf Gift Box for 5 Yule Festival Tokens and offers two quests:
- ‘Tis the Season
- Wreathed in Fir
‘Tis the Season asks you to pick mistletoe from trees that line the road on the way north to Thrasi’s Lodge. Wreathed in Fir involves heading west to gather fir branches from bushes. Each rewards one Yule Festival Token.
Thorin’s Hall
Yule Festival
The party at Thorin’s Hall is in the inn in the lower part of the city. Just head past the big statue in and you should see a tunnel leading down on the right or the left. They’ll eventually run right into the inn.
The only real thing to do here is to learn Dwarf dances from Gamli. The process is the same as with Ada Musgrove in Bree-land.
The Quartermaster
The Quartermaster can be found just west of the Town Crier inside Thorin’s Hall. The Quartermaster is just to the West of the Town Crier. He trades for 5 Yule Festival Tokens for a Dwarf Gift Box, but also offers two of his own quests:
- Dreaming of a White Yule
- Dwarf-ice
Dreaming of a White Yule requires you to find hard-packed snow just west of Frerin’s Court. Dwarf-ice involves gathering shaved ice and berries around the frozen lake west of the Thorin’s Hall gate. Each rewards a Yule Festival Token.

[…] On: December 11th, 2008Posted By: semjazaPosted in: UncategorizedI wrote a guide of sorts about the Yule Festival. Nothing about it is terribly complicated, but people seem to like guides to whatever they can […]
Its some housing items, potions, food, bigger housing items and a speaciel horse which is I think the best reward there. Nothing speaciel but the horse races are quite fun on their own.
